When I first met these two at a little coffee shop in Columbia City last winter, they told me about how they were both social workers and some of the work adventures they’ve been on. Hannah works closely with the kiddos in early childhood education while Nick works with homeless veterans. In fact, all proceeds from the bar tip jar went directly to Nick’s work organization FareStart, which aims to provide solutions to joblessness, homelessness and hunger. Need I say more? These two are such remarkable people, and it was such an honor to document the wedding of a power couple that works so hard to make a difference in the world.
Never have I been in the presence of so many people young at heart as I have been at Hannah and Nick’s wedding at Luther Burbank Park. I found myself spending plenty of time in the summer sun getting to know and photographing their friends and family members as they socialized and played yard games. I even got a chance to learn about one I’d never heard of: Kubb, which is essentially the Swedish lawn game version of bowling meets horseshoes. I also hit it off with their videographer, who was literally their dog Bernie in a GoPro harness. And did I mention their first dance turned into a gigantic flash mob? Hannah and Nick’s wedding just had so much character, I can hardly begin to describe it in words. Fortunately photos are supposed to be worth thousands of those, right?
