Emily + Johnny’s Socially Distant Wedding in Washington
Emily mentioned she was on track to get her Ph.D studying viruses when she first inquired with me last year. Needless to say, everyone in attendance at their socially distant wedding in Washington were model citizens when it came to distancing. In fact, their friends all attended by boat! The ceremony and mini reception took place on the dock of Emily’s family’s lake house, which is located in a town just south of Seattle. Their family members witnessed from the shore while close friends witnessed from watercrafts. Emily and Johnny truly made the best of a bummer situation, even if it was quite different than their original wedding plans. It was such a creative twist on a socially distant wedding!
I am most excited about the drone photo and video footage I captured! The whole ceremony was such a picture perfect moment to capture from the sky so of course I leapt at the opportunity. I am thinking drone video in this manner is going to be something I start incorporating into my wedding work more often. Something about capturing a moment, then flying out backwards and showing the entire area just gives you such a sense of place. Not to mention getting to see the full beautiful lake and everything beyond it was truly something else. Flying is one of my favorite things about weddings because the unique perspective is such an amazing thing to be able to share with my couples.
Times are heckin’ strange, but 2020 has definitely come with some very unique situations that are unlike anything we have ever experienced before. Living through these times and getting to see how people adapt so creatively has been truly fascinating. Emily and Johnny’s wedding is no exception! Their special day will certainly go down in history of one of my favorite wedding experiences of my career. I could not be more excited to get to document these two again exactly one year form their 2020 wedding date for their anniversary celebration!
